Speakers
Carl White
White will talk about his artistic process, “I often tend to speak more about my philosophy of art and I how I approach it, I am interested almost entirely in the process, the act of creation and joining the flow….I often begin in an intellectual pursuit only to try wholeheartedly to break free of it once the painting begins.”
Carl will teach a painting workshop in which the participants can work in a medium of their choosing focused around a model or still life. The intent is to free themselves from the normal constraints of painting techniques, work very freely and intuitively, allowing the piece to reveal itself.
K.J. MacAlister
MacAlister will tell you why she loves pots. She loves making pots learning new techniques and sharing with like minded clay enthusiasts.
You will see the pots that she has made and learned from. I love pots.
KJ will examine the organic aspect of what clay can do. With the application of deep textures and then a stretching of our material, we can accomplish a natural looking, inviting finish on our vessels. Imagine pots that beg to be touched…The options for this kind of work are endless. We will look at the use of templates in the formation of vessels, strictly hand built textured ware and we can explore a mixture of techniques that emphasize using texture to express character in your work.

Grant Berg
Berg will discuss his journey to find his inner artist and similarly the process of seeing the sculpture inside each stone and developing both. The process of discovery and creation of the artist and the sculpture; each involves drawing on his or her own personal experiences and passions to reveal what has always been there.
Michelangelo said: “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it” Grant believes this is absolutely true, and that this quote can be taken one step further. ”Every person is an artist inside and it is the task of the individual to discover it“.
In Berg’s workshop he will introduce a variety of stone and the tools used in the sculpture. You will work hands on with a small workable piece of stone, go through the process of visualisation and looking inside yourself to reveal what statue is inside your stone. We will work through the shaping, polishing and finishing of your sculpture.
